Police Officer Application Process:

Online Application

Step 1

The process of becoming and SLMPD Officer begins with completing the online application.  All applicants should familiarize themselves with the EMPLOYEE COMMITMENT FORM AND PROMISSORY NOTE, which can be found at the beginning of the online application. This is a binding contract between applicants and the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.

Please read the PROMISSORY NOTE COVER LETTER and the EMPLOYEE COMMITMENT FORM AND PROMISSORY NOTE in its entirety, this form will be signed and notarized in-person later during the application process.

Record Release Authorization

This document gives your authorization to former employers and others to release confidential information about you to the St. Louis Police Metropolitan Department.

The document lists examples of the types of information that might be requested.

*Witness must sign and date form. Your witness must be over 18 years of age and not a relative.

Confidential Records

The St. Louis Police Metropolitan Department will consider your complete criminal history and arrest record when determining your qualifications to become a police officer. You are responsible for listing all arrests, citations, traffic violations, and tickets you have ever received on the appropriate documents. This document is your acknowledgement that you understand this requirement.

Physical Abilities Test

This form provides details on the Physical Abilities requirements for becoming a Probationary Police Officer. You must acknowledge these requirements and declare that you are able to meet them.

Background Questionnaire

An extensive background investigation of your character and reputation will be conducted as part of the application process. All information you provide will be verified, so answer each question accurately and completely.

Gather Documents

To be considered for employment, you must provide the following documentation with your application packet:

  • (2) full face & front view photographs (1-1/2″ by 2″) taken within the last 6 months ( passport photographs will be taken at the Recruitment Office or applicant may report to a 3rd party vendor to have them taken.)
  • Copy of ALL of the following – DO NOT SEND ORIGINALS. TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE MAILED FROM ISSUER.
    • Birth Certificate
    • High School diploma or accredited equivalency certificate
    • High School Transcript
      Please have your High School mail an official copy of your transcript to the following address.
      You must include receipt/proof of request with your application packet.

HOW DO I SUBMIT MY DOCUMENTS?

Documents can be uploaded directly into the online application.  Transcripts must be mailed from issuer, and applicants should include receipt/proof of transcript requests with their online document submission.
