POSITION TITLE: Continuing Education Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: Police Academy
REPORTS TO: Police Academy Director
POSITION SUMMARY
Performs duties to coordinate and track the training of commissioned and civilian personnel.
FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
Essential Functions
- Research educational needs (and mandates) of the Department.
- Develop courses and programs appropriate to those needs.
- Schedule and advertise courses, to promote adequate participation.
- Monitor and report on the attendance of department personnel.
- Maintain digital records of training, and continuing education.
- Prepare and present individual certificates of course completion.
- Assist personnel in identifying and meeting their training needs.
- Maintains course records, in accordance with “P.O.S.T.” requirements.
- Prepare for P.O.S.T. Commission Audits, held every three years.
- Create proposals and contracts for independent training consultants.
- Serve as liaison between outside contractors and the department.
- Monitor and report on the performance of those contractors.
- Maintain compliance with the standards of C.A.L.E.A.
- Remain accessible to requests for information and assistance.
- Comply with revisions from time to time after mutual consultation.
- Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
- Regular punctual attendance is required.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge:
- Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or closely related field or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Basic computer skills.
Experience:
- One year experience in training and development, teaching or equivalent and experience in the use of all of Microsoft Office software products.
Skills and Abilities:
- Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally both written and oral.
- Ability to exercise extreme discretion regarding confidential information.
- Ability to organize and coordinate all aspects of training seminars.
- Ability to self-motivate.

- Normal office environment with outside functions when required.

PHYSICAL/VISUAL ACTIVITIES OR DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, reach, grasp, talk, and hear.
This position requires clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and the ability to bring objects into sharp focus, while reading from a computer screen.
The job has light physical demand (primarily sedentary) requiring the employee to exert negligible force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects in the normal course of routine office activities.
